Single Pipa

So I finally found out that the Buddha dance that I did in high school was a rearranged version of this Pipa song 阳春白雪, which means "sunlight on white snow." This whole time, I thought it was multiple instruments, but it was all just one. High labor productivity, only have to pay one musician.

Bonobo

I really like this song by Bonobo. Actually it's just the Prelude for the CD, which is more electronica. Sounds Asian. I wonder if the melody is from some other song.

Tiny Practice Rooms

This weekend I heard some music I liked, and so we went exploring, and found that there was this space with rows and rows of tiny practice rooms. There was a band who called themselves "The Roads," but it seemed like they were just starting out so they didn't have any venues lined up. Oh well. It was good.

OutKast

Was reminded lately of The Love Below, the solo project by Andre 3000. I knew that before that they did Bombs of Baghdad, which I don't like all that much. It has a lot of acclaim, it seems, because they rap so fast in it. I didn't know they also did a number of Hip Hop classics like So Fresh and So Clean. Well, I don't know if it's really a hip hop classic, but I remember hearing it around a lot, and I think the melody gets sampled a lot.

And also Rosa Parks goes even more way back.

Global Frequency Told Me

MIT Radio

Heard a good station yesterday on WMBR, Global Frequency. I started getting my groove on in the car. Kind of embarrassing, kind of unsatisfying since I am sitting in a car and can't use the rest of my body, but also makes me feel kind of like a puppet since I suddenly don't have control over my body.

Update: Oh wow, I just found out that this station is run by Beth Coleman, and MIT professor in Comparative Media Studies, her husband and her students. No wonder it's so good. She also runs Soundlabs, where they all make music.
